The conditions included here are the most common conditions encountered by students; this does not mean that you cannot encounter conditions not included here. It is your responsibility to do a comprehensive review on your own.
Interview Prep
For each condition, be prepared to answer these interview questions:
- What is this condition, and how would you explain it simply to a patient?
- What is happening in the body (summarized pathophysiology)?
- What are the main causes and risk factors (including genetic factors if relevant)?
- What are the key signs and symptoms, and which ones are most concerning?
- What focused nursing assessment would you perform first for this patient?
- How is this condition diagnosed (key tests and investigations)?
- What lab values are relevant, and what abnormalities would you expect?
- What is the medical management and overall goal of treatment?
- What medications are used, and what are the key nursing responsibilities associated with them?
- What are your priority nursing actions, including immediate concerns, complications, and red flags?
